Nathan graduated in 2002 from Quincy Notre Dame and received a bachelor's of science degree from Illinois State University in 2006. He started at The Quincy Herald-Whig in April 2007 as the maintenance manager, then moved into the role of production manager in November 2007. He was promoted in June 2010 to operations manager and, in July 2011, was named distribution director, where he oversees newspaper sales, delivery and mailroom operations.
