Nona started at The Herald-Whig in April 1979 in the Classified Department. She was still taking ads by typewriter at that time, but in June of that year, the department switched to computers. She moved to Canton, Mo., and had the "fun" of commuting to and from work by boat in the summer of 1993 during the flooding of the Mississippi River, "an experience I hope never repeats itself," she said. Nona has two children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
