Blake Toppmeyer

Blake Toppmeyer joined The Herald-Whig in August 2010. His primary responsibilities are coverage of Quincy University men's and women's basketball, city prep football (QHS/QND/Hannibal), the Prospect League, high school volleyball and high school track.

A native of Virden, Ill., Toppmeyer graduated from Truman State in May 2010 with a degree in Communication: Journalism. Prior to joining the Herald-Whig, Toppmeyer served a brief stint as sports editor of the Maryville (Mo.) Daily Forum. He also worked four years for Truman's college newspaper, the Index, which the College Media Advisers named the nation's best non-daily college newspaper for 2009-10 when Toppmeyer was Editor in Chief.

Toppmeyer's sports coverage at The Hearld-Whig has earned him awards from the Illinois Press Association and the Illinois Associated Press Editors Association.

In his spare time, Toppmeyer enjoys playing golf and watching his beloved Miami Marlins on
