Free trade agreements would boost economy

To The Herald-Whig:

I am writing to encourage Representatives Schock and Schilling and Senators Durbin and Kirk to vote in favor of the three free trade agreements with South Korea, Panama and Colombia when President Obama sends them to Congress.

These agreements will create jobs in America at a time when employment numbers continue to stagnate. They will expand overseas markets for our products at a time when we're losing market share because these countries are signing trade pacts with other nations. They will add billions of dollars to our economy.

Illinois, in particular, will benefit from these agreements. Agriculture and manufacturing -- the state's two largest industries -- will sell hundreds of millions of dollars more worth of goods to these countries. Between the new jobs and increased economic activity, it's like a new stimulus package without the cost to U.S. taxpayers.

The U.S. is hungry for jobs and our trading partners are hungry for our goods. Let's pass these free trade agreements -- good for jobs, good for agriculture, good for consumers, and good for American prosperity.
