Vets Home festivities did Quincy area proud

To The Herald-Whig:

Awesome. That's the best word I can think of to describe the fireworks display at the Illinois Veterans Home Monday night. I can honestly say it was the best I've ever seen.

My father, Gerald Anderson, a Korean War veteran, has been a resident at the Vet's Home since last December, so we were on the grounds with him for the festivities.

Besides the fireworks, the food vendors, car show and live music all made for a great day. What better way to help the IVH celebrate 125 years of serving our most valued citizens, those who fought to protect our freedom.

Quincy and all in the surrounding area should be proud.

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
