When her kids first asked to be taken to the Illinois Veterans Home to fish on Friday, Abby Hively took a pass because she thought it was too chilly to be outside. However, with her kids out of school in observance of Good Friday, she eventually relented and took them to Illinois Lake on the Veterans Home’s grounds on the northwest side of Quincy. Hively never expected to save a life while watching her kids fish.
