Pinning Ceremony held at School of Practical Nursing

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- The 48th annual Pinning Ceremony honoring the students of the Hannibal Public School of Practical Nursing was held on Aug. 11 at the Clover Road Christian Church in Hannibal.

A class of 24 students received their pins after a 52 week course of study in the Practical Nursing Program.

The graduates are: Ashanti Anderson of Emerson, Mo.; Shawn Askey and Alexandra Winders of Vandalia, Mo.; Regina Beltran of Beeville, Texas; Alicia Bergheger, Lindsey DeClue, Brittany Drazba, Joshua Feather, Desiree Halemeyer, Amber Knudson, Jennifer Locke, Stephanie Meyer and Rhonda Michaels of Hannibal, Mo.; Jane Bobak of Kansas City, Mo.; Angela Griggs and Catherine Yoder of Monroe City, Mo.; Jeanie Hayes of Perry, Mo.; Allison Miller and Laura Rose of Quincy, Ill.; Brenda Obert of Palmyra, Mo.; Jessica Poage of New London, Mo.; Corinna Sheppard of Louisiana, Mo.; Bridie Tracy of Canton, Mo.; and Heather Voepel of Philadelphia, Mo. Michelle Hoskins is scheduled to complete graduation requirements in the near future.

Recipients of the special awards were: Catherine Yoder, General Nursing Proficiency Award; Lindsey DeClue, Clinical Nursing Award; and Alexandra Winders, Brandie Kearns Memorial Nursing Personality Award.

Scholastic Achievement Awards were presented to the top 20 percent of the class and were received by: Catherine Yoder, valedictorian; Jennifer Locke, salutatorian; Lindsey DeClue, third-ranking student; Shawn Askey, fourth-ranking student and Alexandra Winders, fifth-ranking student. Ashanti Anderson, Shawn Askey, Jane Bobak, Angela Griggs, Jennifer Locke, Rhonda Michaels, Heather Voepel, Alexandra Winders and Catherine Yoder received recognition for National Vocational-Technical Honor Society membership.

Jennifer Locke was awarded the Beth Haven Community LPN Scholarship, Jessica Poage received the Alice Dempsey Memorial Nursing Scholarship and Jane Bobak was honored as a recipient of the Missouri League for Nursing Scholarship. Joshua Feather was recognized for receiving an honorable mention award in the Missouri Breaking Traditions Program.

Two new awards were established this year: the Hannibal Clinic Award and the Draper Family Practical Nursing Award. Angela Griggs and Rhonda Michaels shared the Hannibal Clinic Award while Lindsey DeClue and Corinna Sheppard shared the Draper Award.

The Hannibal Public School of Practical Nursing is a 52-week educational program at the Hannibal Career and Technical Center. The school is affiliated with Hannibal Regional Hospital, Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Beth Haven Nursing Home, the Hannibal Clinic, the Marion and Ralls County Health Departments and NECAC Family Planning.
