HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Hannibal Parks and Recreation has announced that the Admiral Coontz Armory will close in May for renovations.

The renovation project will yield major upgrades to the lighting system, the kitchen and the second-floor space most commonly used by the popular Hannibal Boxing Club.

Parks and Recreation Director Andy Dorian received the green light last month from the City Council to work with Poepping, Stone, Bach and Associates on design plans for the project.

Work is expected to wrap up by Sept. 1.

Officials with the department said the facility, which has a 1,000-person capacity, will be available for rental through April, with some previously closed dates in February opening up recently.

For more information on rentals, call Dorian at (573) 221-0154.
