Accident in Ralls County claims life of Martinsburg man

CENTER, Mo. -- A Martinsburg man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident north of Center.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Paul G. Knipfel, 47, of Martinsburg, was eastbound on Highway H, five miles north of Center, at 10:30 a.m. The vehicle failed to stop at an intersection and drove into the path of a southbound 2009 Mazda driven by Tammy K. Relford, 50, of New London. The Knipfel vehicle was struck in the driver's side door. Knipfel was not wearing a seat belt; Relford was, according to the patrol.

Knipfel was pronounced dead at 11:38 a.m. at Hannibal Regional Hospital and was transported to Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Relford was transported by the Ralls County ambulance to Hannibal Regional.

The patrol was assisted by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department, Ralls County Fire Department and Ralls County Ambulance.
