Gene and Betty Jansen

Gene and Elizabeth "Betty" Jansen of Quincy marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family vacation to Hilton Head, N.C., in July. They also celebrated with a family dinner Saturday in the Pier Restaurant.

The couple was married Nov. 3, 1962, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Sterling.

Mrs. Jansen is a daughter of the late Frank "Put" and Gladys Flynn Wegs of Mount Sterling. Mr. Jansen is a son of the late Edmund and Frances Hummel Jansen of Quincy.

They are the parents of Janice (Jeff) Link of Springfield and Diane (Bruce) Kline of Hudson, Ohio. They have four grandchildren.

Mr. Jansen retired from farming and the U.S. Postal Service. He volunteers at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Mrs. Jansen was employed by Electric Wheel Co. and retired from farming. She volunteers at Blessing Hospital.

They are members of St. Francis Catholic Church, Quincy Bicycle Club and the Elks. They enjoy biking, traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
