The Western boys basketball team held off a fourth-quarter rally by Knox County to win 48-45 in the Gully Transportation Tip-Off Tournament at The Pit.

Donovan Edwards missed a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Western scored the final basket of the game when Toby Vincent converted a pass from Izack Hively with 1:04 left. The Eagles had three fouls to give before the bonus. After the seventh foul, Western's Eric Rueb missed the front end of a bonus situation with 16.4 seconds left. Kellen Gillaspy grabbed the defensive rebound which set up Edwards's shot.

The Wildcats (1-1) led 41-33 after the third quarter but Knox County cut the lead to 44-43 on a basket by Gillaspy with just under four minutes left. Western scored just two more baskets the rest of the way -- both layups by Vincent.

Hively scored a game-high 16 points to go with six assists to lead the Wildcats, while Kyle Warning added 13 points. Royce Poore led Knox County (0-2) with 14 points.

In Case You Missed It

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
