The West Hancock boys basketball teammoved a step closer to setting up a Saturday night showdown withQuincy Notre Dame.
The Titans turned up the defensive intensity inthe second half Wednesday night to win the pool title of the SunsClassic with a 40-29 victory over Southeastern at Augusta, Ill.
Friday, West Hancock (3-0) will faceWestern at 8 p.m. in a crossover game in the Gully TransportationQND/Suns Classic Tip-Off Tournament. The winner plays in Saturday's 8p.m. championship game at The Pit at Quincy Notre Dame.
The Titans trailed 15-10 after thefirst quarter before taking a 20-19 halftime lead. They outscored theSuns 20-10 in the second half.
Austin Hardy led West Hancock with15 points and Paxton Harmon added 14. Matthew Ramsey led Southeastern(2-1) with nine points.
Unity scored all of its fourth-quarterpoints from the free-throw line in a 42-29 victory over Central.
TheMustangs were 8 of 9 from the line in the fourth after leading 34-23at halftime.
Andrew Doyle scored a game-high 12 points to leadUnity (1-2), while Alex Blickhan added 10. Cole Phillips led thePanthers (0-3) with 10 points.
Pittsfield Tournament: Getting tothe free-throw line made a difference for the host Saukees in their57-49 victory over Hannibal.
Pittsfield was 27 of 31 from the linein the game. In the fourth quarter alone, the Saukees were 10 of12.
Pittsfield started to pull away in the second quarter,outscoring the Pirates 24-13 to take a 36-24 halftime lead.
WaydeSmith led the Saukees (1-1) with 19 points, while Kennedy Kattelmanscored 18 and Dylan Reel added 15.
Eric Hugenberg led Hannibal(0-2) with 20 points and Dalton Powell added 11.
A first-quarterblitz helped Pleasant Plains start fast in an 80-54 victory overGriggsville-Perry. The Cardinals (2-0) outscored the Tornadoes23-8 in the opening quarter before going ahead 42-20 athalftime.
Dryden Craven led Griggsville (0-2) with 15 points andLevi King added 11.
