The Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball team held Jacksonville Routt without a field goal for the opening 8 minutes, 48 seconds of its 77-39 victory Saturday afternoon at The Pit.
By the time Alyssa Garde scored Routt's first field goal with a 3-pointer with 7:12 left in the second quarter, the Lady Raiders led 24-8. QND forced the Lady Rockets to make 14 of their 31 turnovers in the first quarter.
The Lady Raiders answered Garde's basket with a 15-0 run, extending their lead to 39-8 when Olivia Hyer made two free throws with 2:54 left in the first half.
Kassidy Gengenbacher scored seven of QND's first nine points of the second half to finish with a game-high 19 points. Mary Beth Hugenberg followed with 14 points, Hannah Marcolla scored 10 points, and Jordan Frericks grabbed seven rebounds for the Lady Raiders (2-0).
Joanna Gross led Routt (1-1) with 17 points, 14 in the second half, while Garde added 13.
Macomb 81, Liberty-Payson Seymour 77: Despite a game-high 24 points from Maranda Neisen, the Lady Eagles suffered their first loss of the season. Liberty was down by seven at halftime, and Neisen led a second-half charge, scoring 13 points in the final half. Madelyn Hyer was also in double figures for the Lady Eagles (4-1) with 13 points.
Galesburg Tournament: Illini West closed out the tournament with two losses, falling 39-37 to LeRoy and 53-45 to East Peoria.
The Chargers' Shelbi White made a free throw to tie LeRoy at 37 with five seconds left, but a LeRoy player was fouled on the inbounds play and sank both free throws to pull out the win. Aubrie Carlisle led the Chargers with 12 points and six rebounds. Michaela Gronewold also reached double digits with 11 points and five rebounds.
Against East Peoria, Graci Bastert scored 10 points to go with six assists and four steals.
"We were able to gain some good experience against some good competition," said Illini West coach Grant Surprenant, whose team fell to 0-5.
Hannibal-LaGrange 87, Central Bible 67: The Trojans picked up their first win of the season at the Quality Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
Arii Meuel led the Trojans (1-5) with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jomal Green and Abraham Arinyakono added 15 points apiece for HLGU. Arinyakono also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists.
HLGU held Central Bible to 41 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded the Spartans 43-39.
