Ring-A-Bell 5K Run/Walk benefits Salvation Army Christmas Campaign

The Salvation Army is sponsoring the Ring-a-Bell 5K Run/Walk on Saturday.

Race time is 10 a.m., with runners starting first. The starting location is behind Quincy Mall. The race will go through Moorman Park and back to the mall.

Online registration at krocquincy.org ends at 7 tonight. Packet pick-up and late registration is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the fountain court in the mall, or from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday before the race.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Salvation Army's annual Christmas campaign.

The cost is $18 for mall walkers, $30 for individuals running and $72 for families up to four. The cost is $12 for each additional person.

Prizes will be awarded for the most festive dressed team, overall first- and second-place winners for men and women in the 5K run, and the overall male and female winner in the walk.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
