Girls basketball roundup: Lady Raiders start fast, roll Bowling Green

The Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball team went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter in a 68-37 win Tuesday over Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Mo.

Kristen and Kassidy Gengenbacher each had eight points in the second quarter, accounting for 16 of QND's 23 second-quarter points.

Kristen Gengenbacher scored a game-high 22 points, Kassidy Gengenbacher supplied 14 points and Jordan Frericks chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Clopton 48, Canton 42: Canton overcame a slow start to take an early lead in the second half, but fell short as Clopton's Shelby Dunn hit a pair of three-pointers to spark a third-quarter run.

Allison Phillips topped Canton (0-5) with nine points.

Palmyra 67, Louisiana 20: Katee Hinkle finished with 17 points to lead top-seeded Palmyra to a win in the first round of the Monroe City Tournament.

The Lady Panthers used a big first half, where they outscored Louisiana 44-10, to take control of the game.

Alexis Van Nostrand was also in double figures for the top-seeded Lady Panthers with 10 points. Louisiana was led by Denise Blackwell, who finished with eight points.

Palmyra will play No. 4 Paris on Thursday's semifinals after Paris won a first-round game 57-55 over No. 5 Marceline.

Unity Tournament: Rachel Motley finished with eight points to lead Western to a 42-31 win over Highland in pool play.

The Lady Wildcats shot 19 of 29 from the free-throw line to gain control over the Lady Cougars (0-3).

In the second game, Shelby Koehler finished with a career-high 27 points to lead West Hancock in a 79-37 win over Brown County.

Koehler scored 25 of her 27 points in the first half to give the Titans a 31-point halftime lead.

Vanessa Markert led Brown County (1-4) with 18 points.

Scotland County 45, North Shelby 27: Randi Slaughter finished with nine points to lead Scotland County to a Tri-Rivers Conference win at Memphis, Mo.

Elizabeth Linberger led the Lady Raiders with 12 points.

Pittsfield 44, Jerseyville 30: The Lady Saukees opened up a 26-6 halftime lead to beat Jerseyville.

Shea O'Brien scored a game-high 26 points for Pittsfield (2-5) and Alyssa Heavner added 10 points.
