QND earns top seed in holiday tournament, QHS goes unseeded

The Quincy Notre Dame boys basketball team received the No. 1 seed in the small-school bracket of the State Farm Holiday Classic in Bloomington, Ill.

The 8-0 Raiders will play Macon Meridian in the first round at 1 p.m. Dec. 26 at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.

Only the top four teams are seeded in each 16-team bracket. Rockford Lutheran was seeded second, Chicago Providence St. Mel was third and St. Joe Ogden fourth.

QND, the defending tournament champions, will play either Rock Island Alleman or Bloomington Central Catholic on Dec. 27.

The Central-Southeastern girls will play top-seeded Champaign St. Thomas Moore at Normal Community High School at at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 26 in the small-school girls tournament.

QHS Learns first-round opponent: The Quincy High School boys basketball team went unseeded for the Schnucks Holiday Classic in Collinsville, Ill. Only the top four teams are seeded for the 16-team field.

QHS (6-1) will open against Dunlap in the first round at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27. The Blue Devils would play No. 3-seeded Springfield Southeast or Granite City in the second round. Belleville East is the No. 1 seed, Chatham Glenwood is No. 2 and Lincoln is No. 4.
