CANTON, Mo. — Culver Stockton College's James Johnson was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

Johnson, a 6-foot-5 junior forward from Saginaw, Mich., came off the bench in two victories for the Wildcats and helped the team to its first 3-0 start in conference play since the 2000-01 season. He averaged 20 points and five rebounds last week while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor, including a 8-of-16 clip from beyond the arc.

The league's second-leading scorer, Johnson began the week with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 73-66 win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in non-conference play. He followed that up against Peru State with 19 points and six rebounds and hit four three-pointers for the second-straight game. Johnson is averaging 17.4 points per game and shooting 45.6 percent from the field.

In Case You Missed It

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
