Jim and Janice Hiland

Jim and Janice Hiland of 2030 S. 40th marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Orlando, Fla., in October. They also celebrated with a family dinner Saturday.

The couple was married Dec. 15, 1962, in Augusta Christian Church in Augusta.

Mrs. Hiland is the former Janice Boone, daughter of the late Robert and Idella Boone. Mr. Hiland is a son of the late Ed and Dorothy Hiland.

They are the parents of Tara Hanson, and Nicholas Hiland and his wife, Danielle, all of Quincy, and Tonya Hiland of Beavercreek, Ohio. They have one grandchild.

Mr. Hiland retired from Moorman Manufacturing Co. after 31 years of service. He was active in sports officiating for many years, and played pro ball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He has enjoyed golf and woodworking, and being a mentor.

Mrs. Hiland retired from Blessing Hospital and St. Mary Hospital. She graduated from Barnes Nursing School in St. Louis and was a member of the Tri State Oncology Nurses Association, Academy of Medical/Surgical Nurses and the Barnes Jewish College Honor Roll. She enjoys gardening and canning.

They are active members of Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoy spending time with family.

Mr. and Mrs. Hiland both grew up in Augusta. They met each other again in later years when she was attending Barnes Nursing School and he was working in St. Louis.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
