One independent candidate has filed to run for Quincy City Council.

Jonathan Schoenakase, operator of the controversial Courtesy Rides who was denied a taxi license from the city in 2010, filed Wednesday to run for the aldermanic post in the 5th Ward.

Incumbent Mike Rein, a Republican, filed to seek re-election in November. Rein has served on the City Council since 1999. No Democratic candidates filed.

The filing deadline for independents was Wednesday. Roger Davis, who picked up petitions to run for mayor as an independent, did not file.
