College basketball preview: RMU-Springfield at QU men

Scouting the Eagles: RMU beat Morthland College 76-75 its last time out, Dec. 21. Reid David, a 6-foot-5 sophomore forward, led the Eagles with 25 points against Morthland. Phillip Thomas, a 5-10 senior guard, added 19 points, and 6-2 junior guard Denzell Walker chipped in 16 points.

The Eagles, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, are 0-4 this season against teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, with a total margin of defeat of 298-217 in those games.

Defying the numbers: The Hawks might be a little fortunate to be sitting with a 5-3 record. QU is actually getting outscored by an average of 2.5 points per game. That average scoring margin ranks QU 14th in the 16-team Great Lakes Valley Conference. Yet, the Hawks are 5-1 in games decided by 10 points or less. QU's average margin of victory in its five wins is five points per game. The Hawks average margin of defeat in their three losses is 15 points per game.

The series: The Hawks lead the all-time series 5-1.
