Barry woman killed in accident involving tractor-trailer

PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- A 44-year-old Barry woman was killed Monday morning in an accident involving a tractor-trailer rig and her sport utility vehicle.

The Pike County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the accident at 7:51 a.m. on Ill. 106, approximately two miles west of U.S. 54 outside of Pittsfield. Melissa D. Warning was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the tractor-trailer unit was heading west when it left the left the road. Upon returning to the road, the unit entered the eastbound lane before jack-knifing and striking the SUV driven by Warning.

The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Pike County Coroner.

Assisting were the Pittsfield Police Department, the Pittsfield Fire Department and the Pike County Ambulance Service.
