EDINA, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Donnie Davis of Edina as treasurer for Knox County on Thursday.

The position became vacant upon the resignation of Treasurer Allen Gudehus, who was elected sheriff in November.

"Donnie Davis is well-known to the citizens of Knox County, having farmed and managed businesses here for many years," Nixon said. "I'm confident he will ably serve them in this vital position."

Davis, a Democrat, has been the general manager of the Baring/Novelty Elevator, now operated by Archers Daniel Midland, since 1993.

He previously was the manager of Knox County Feed and Supply for 16 years, and owned and managed Davis Farms, a row crop and cattle operation.

Davis is a former Edina city alderman and a former member of the Knox County Extension Council.

He is a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University before it was renamed Truman State University.
