Girls Basketball Roundup: North Shelby falls in OT

Putnam County's Dakoda Owings hit a jumper with eight seconds left in overtime to lift the Putnam County girls basketball team to a 48-47 victory over North Shelby Friday night in Shelbyville, Mo.

Mercedes Nute opened the scoring in overtime with a 3-pointer for the Raiders. The teams traded baskets, but a turnover led to Owings' game-winner.

North Shelby trailed by five with under two minutes to play when Brianna Cochenour hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to two.

Putnam County went ahead by three again on a free throw, but Cochenour hit another 3-pointer with four seconds to play to send the game into overtime.

Ashton Reitz led North Shelby with 11 points and Cochenour added 10.

Marion County 67, Novinger 27: Sophomore Roxanne Tobias had a career night, scoring 15 points and snaring five rebounds as the Lady Mustangs rolled to the victory in Novinger, Mo.

Tobias scored nine of her points in the first quarter, sparking a 28-point effort by Marion County (7-2).

Sadie Pollard scored 13 points, Kaelyn Spratt chipped in 12 and Devan Johnson had 11 for the Lady Mustangs.

Bowling Green 50, Mark Twain 28: The Lady Tigers trailed 26-11 at halftime and scored just four points in the third quarter en route to the loss.

Michelle Epperson led Mark Twain with eight points.

Highland Tournament: A balanced scoring attack led to a third-place finish for Hannibal, as the Lady Pirates captured a 63-46 victory over South Shelby,

Lauren Holliday scored 16 points to lead Hannibal. Theresa Sheffer added 13 points for the Lady Pirates (5-5).

Aimee Ellyson led South Shelby (5-7) with 15 points, all coming on three-pointers. Kellie Harvey chipped in 12 points, and Cassidy Johnston added 11.

In the consolation game, No. 3 Clark County placed three players in double figures en route to a 52-45 victory over No. 5 Knox County.

The Lady Indians improved to 6-5 overall while Knox County dropped to 5-5.

Kailey Roberts notched a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Megan Oilar added 12 points, and Hannah Trump chipped in 10 for Clark County.

McKaiya Miller and Alex Hamlin led Knox County with nine points apiece.

Clopton Tournament: Carly Spalding scored 20 points to lead Monroe City to a 45-30 victory over Living Word Christian in the third-place game.

The Panthers held Christian to six points in the second half.
