College notebook: HLGU's Spencer nabs weekly honor again

Ashleigh Spencer, a sophomore forward on the Hannibal-LaGrange women's basketball team, was named the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It's the second time this season Spencer has earned the honor.

Spencer averaged 25.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in a pair of HLGU wins last week. She also received the AMC's weekly award on Dec. 10.

Spencer is averaging 19.8 points this season, which ranks seventh in NAIA Division I. She's helped HLGU start 9-4 and 2-0 in the AMC.

C-SC player Nabs honor: Culver-Stockton College forward Alen Hadzimahovic was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Hadzimahovic, a 6-foot-7 junior forward, is the second Wildcat to earn the weekly honor, joining junior James Johnson, who earned the award on Dec. 10.

Hadzimahovic averaged 20.5 points and eight rebounds in a pair of overtime victories for the Wildcats last week. He is an integral part of a remarkable turnaround by the Wildcats (14-3), who are off to their best start since the 1971-72
