Scouting the Panthers: Kentucky Wesleyan, ranked sixth nationally, remained undefeated by beating Missouri-St. Louis 72-71 on Saturday behind 21 points and 11 rebounds from Dazmond Starke. A 6-foot-7 senior center, Starke leads KWC at 14.3 points and nine rebounds per game. Five other players average at least nine points per game. Lucas Barker, a 6-0 freshman guard, is averaging 12.8 points per game and shooting 48.4 percent from 3-point range.

The Panthers opened the season with 10 straight home games. KWC has won eight Division II national titles, the most recent in 2001.

Double figures for Babbitt: QU junior guard Chris Babbitt has settled into a scoring groove. He made 7 of 13 field-goal attempts and scored 16 points in the Hawks' 67-59 loss at McKendree last Saturday. That extended Babbitt's streak of double-figure scoring games to seven straight. He's shooting 44.3 percent from the field during that stretch, including 50 percent on two-point attempts.

The series: KWC leads the all-time series 24-10.

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
