VERSAILLES, Ill. -- The final deadline will be March 20 for submissions to the new Brown County history book.

The Versailles Genealogical and Historical Society is publishing the new book, the first done in 40 years in the county.

Hundreds of family histories already have been received for the book, but many have expressed a need for more time to prepare their histories.

Histories of up to 500 words and one photograph received by the extended final deadline will be included at no charge in the book designed to highlight changes since the last history book was published in 1972.

The hardbound book will be published by Acclaim Press, a company which has published hundreds of county history books nationwide including ones for Cass and Schuyler counties, and must be ordered in advance. Order forms are available from the society at P.O. Box 92, Versailles, IL 62378.

Churches, businesses and organizations are welcome to include their articles as well as personal memorials and tributes, sold on a part- or full-page basis, for an additional charge. Price brochures for memorials/tributes are available from the society.

Photos and items of interest on the townships, villages and schools in the county also are being collected for the book.

Family histories and photos may be submitted by email to
