CLARENCE, Mo. -- A second arrest has been made in connection with an armed robbery at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Community State Bank in Clarence.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Savanna J. Barger, 26, of Atlanta, Mo., was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Thursday. Barger was arrested on suspicion of felony conspiracy to commit armed robbery and on a Macon County warrant for failing to appear on a May traffic charge for failure to display a license plate. She is lodged in the Macon County Jail in pending the issuance of a warrant.
Cody A. Barber, 26, of Moulton, Iowa, was taken into custody about 2:50 p.m. Thursday northeast of Clarence following a brief manhunt. Barber was charged with robbery in the first degree, armed criminal action, possession of stolen property and unlawful use of a weapon. He remains lodged in the Shelby County Jail.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a man armed with a handgun entered Community State Bank about 1:45 p.m. Thursday and demanded money. The man fled the area on foot with an undetermined amount of money.
A short time later, a resident observed a man matching a police description get into a blue Pontiac parked in a nearby lot then drive away. The resident followed the vehicle out of Clarence and onto Shelby County roads just northeast of town while advising responding officers from the Highway Patrol and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Officers found the vehicle abandoned about 1.5 miles northeast of Clarence. Officers set up a search perimeter and called in patrol aircraft. About 2:50 p.m., a police dog found Barber and police took him into custody.
The investigation is ongoing by the Highway Patrol, FBI and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
