Champaign Central (4-12) at Quincy boys (14-4)
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Blue Devil Gym
ESPN 1440 AM
Scouting the Maroons: Champaign Central has righted itself after a rough start. The Maroons lost their first six games of the season and have lost six of their last seven games, including a 70-54 loss Friday night to crosstown rival Champaign Centennial. The stretch also includes a one-point loss to Normal Community and a three-point loss to Normal West.
The Maroons are led by Xavier Martin, a 6-foot-5 senior forward who is known for his shot-blocking and defense. He's joined up front by 6-4 Christopher Hutchinson, providing the Maroons with a solid post tandem.
The one common opponent on the schedule is Urbana, which Quincy beat by 22 points in the QHS Thanksgiving Tournament. The Maroons beat the Tigers by nine points.
Holding court: Quincy continues to make Blue Devil Gym a difficult place for people to play. The Blue Devils are 8-2 at home this season after going 10-2 at home last season.
More threes please: After making just one 3-pointer in the victory over Rock Island and averaging just two 3-pointers per game in the Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Classic, the Blue Devils have picked up their perimeter game. Quincy made eight treys at Hinsdale South and followed up with a 6-of-11 showing from the perimeter against United Township.
The series: Quincy leads the all-time series 6-0.
