The Marion County Sheriff's Department is warning area residents about a scam that first appeared in the area last week.

A "death threat scam" email threat warns the receiver that they are the subject of a murder contract. If the receiver pays money, the hit man will not carry through on the contract.

If you receive a scam email, the Marion County Sheriff's Department encourages you to report it to them at (573) 769-2077.

"But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
