Ryan Wood didn't feel the Marion County boys basketball team played its best in the first half Tuesday night against Paris.
"We struggled offensively," the Mustangs coach said.
Clay Pollard changed that in the second half.
The senior forward scored 12 points in the third quarter, 22 in the second half and 33 overall in leading the Mustangs to a 71-58 victory.
"We played better defense in the second half, and Pollard carried us," Wood said.
Reed Plunkett added 16 for Marion County (15-4), while Brant Francis had 21 for Paris.
West Hancock 64, Illini West 48: Paxton Harmon scored 20 of his game-high 30 points in the first half, putting the Titans on the cusp of a 20-win season.
Austin Hardy and Parker Gibbs each scored 11 points for West Hancock (19-5). Brody Gronewold led Illini West with 16 points.
Southeastern 50, Brown County 33: Mathew Ramsey scored all 20 of his points in the first half as the Suns earned the victory at home.
Brady Long led the Hornets with 11 points.
Monmouth-Roseville 62, Central 55: Martel Hunter scored 19 points to lead Monmouth-Roseville, ranked ninth in Class 2A, to the West Central Conference victory.
Douglas Weese and Taylor Heimann led the Panthers (9-11) with 14 and 13 points, respectively,
Griggsville-Perry 70, Pleasant Hill 31: The Tornadoes climbed back to the .500 mark as Hayden Bradshaw scored 15 points. Dryden Craven added 10 points for Griggsville-Perry (11-11).
Zach White led the Wolves with six points.
Unity 44, Pittsfield 39: The Lady Mustangs avenged a December loss in the Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic by hitting free throws down the stretch.
Unity (22-4) took a three-point led with a minute to go and made it last. Breanne Begman led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points, while Brooklyn Moore had 11. Shea O'Brien scored 18 points for Pittsfield (16-12).
Paris 34, Marion County 33: The Lady Mustangs had possession with 14 seconds remaining in regulation, but they were unable to get a shot off and suffered the loss on the road.
Kaelyn Spratt led Marion County (12-7) with 15 points.
QND splits duals: The Raiders wrapped up the regular season by splitting a pair of duals, losing 42-35 to Beardstown and bouncing back to beat Knoxville 42-27.
Darren Stephens recorded a pair of pins for QND (16-9) at 120 pounds by sticking Beardstown's McQuade Jackson in 3:55 and Knoxville's Jake Wiegand in 1:12.
Other wrestlers who picked up wins for the Raiders were Riley Giesing (113), Jonathan Horak (126), Brandon Lake (138), Brandon Schutte (160), Blake Riney (182) and Jeffery Haley (195).
