Playing in tight games all season is paying off for the Highland boys basketball team.
The Cougars outlasted Mark Twain on Tuesday night, earning a critical Clarence Cannon Conference victory with a 62-59 decision.
Derick Smith had 23 points and Brandon Davie 20 for Highland (9-7).
Garrett Jarman led Mark Twain (7-8) with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Louisiana 58, Monroe City 27: Tristan Castiglia finished with 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (12-7) to the CCC victory on the road. The Panthers (5-15) scored just 12 points in the second half.
Macon 60, Clark County 57: Trailing by 12 points at halftime, the Indians came alive offensively in the second half and nearly rallied at home.
Chase Bevans led Clark County (9-10) with 17 points, while Kyle Kovar added 10.
Palmyra 67, South Shelby 20: Katee Hinkle had 17 points to lead the Lady Panthers to the victory at home.
Palmyra (15-5, 4-0) held South Shelby (5-14, 1-3) to just four points in the second quarter and six points in the second half. The Lady Panthers hit eight 3-pointers.
Monroe City 60, Louisiana 32: Carly Spalding finished with a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Panthers.
Kiette Mundy finished with 13 points while Olivia Crager and Emily Lee each added 10 points for Monroe City (17-3).
Caitlin Bolton led Louisiana (8-10) with 10 points.
Macon 46, Clark County 33: Mishaylee Cline led the Lady Indians (9-11) with 15 points in the CCC loss at home.
Mark Twain 40, Highland 35: Mackenzie Grossman racked up 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots as the Lady Tigers won on the road.
Mark Twain held Highland to 22-percent shooting from the field as Kyley Barnes added 10 points.
