The Quincy University baseball team has a target on its back.
The Hawks are picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division, according to a poll of the league's coaches. The GLVC released the poll Tuesday.
Quincy and Drury each received five first-place votes each, while Missouri-St. Louis and Rockhurst each received three first-place votes. QU had 103 points total,narrowly edging Drury's 101.
The Hawks return three All-GLVC performers and their entire starting lineup, which will be based around the play of senior outfielder Aaron Priestes and senior middle infielder Drake Austin.
Priestes was an All-GLVC West first-team pick last season when he hit .395 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs. Priestes was also an American Baseball Coaches Association all-region first-team selection and was a Tino Martinez Award semifinalist.
Austin hit .340 last season with five homers and 32 RBIs and was named to the All-GLVC West first team. He was also picked to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Midwest Region first team.
Senior left-handed pitcher Matt McDaniel was an All-GLVC West second-team hurler last season. He topped the Quincy staff by going 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 69.1 innings pitched.
The Hawks, who won the GLVC title in 2011, will open the regular season with a four-game series at Arkansas Tech on Feb. 23.
