CANTON, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College in Canton plans to offer an online master of business administration degree program starting in the fall.

The program will be unveiled during a launch party from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Pier Restaurant in Quincy, Ill. The presentation will be streamed live online starting at 6 p.m. at

A news release from the college says C-SC's online MBA program will be unique to the area because it will offer three specialized degree tracks. Along with a specialization in management, C-SC will offer a specialization in accounting and finance and a dual-track double degree master of business administration/master of science in nursing offered in partnership with Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing.

"One of the primary reasons we chose to launch an MBA was in response to accounting graduates interested in fulfilling the 150-hour requirement for the CPA," Dell Ann Janney, chairman of C-SC's MBA program and associate dean of experiential education, said in the release.

The MBA with an accounting and finance specialization will provide the accounting major undergraduate with better preparation and the additional hours required to sit for the uniform CPA exam. "It can also be very financially rewarding," Janney said. "Research shows that a CPA can earn nearly $1 million more than a non-certified accountant over a lifetime."

The dual MBA/MSN is the only program of this type in the area for health care administrators. Class sizes in the new program will be small to allow for personalized attention from professors, so a limited number of openings in the program will be available.

All of the MBA courses will be offered completely online, with five eight-week sessions starting in the fall and continuing year-round through the summer. A business degree is not mandatory for acceptance in the program, though some undergraduate prerequisites are necessary for admission. Students can complete the required courses online through C-SC's Connected Campus Program.

The MBA program has a $30 online application fee, but the fee will be waived for any applications received by Feb. 14. More information is available at or by contacting Melinda Johnson at (573) 288-6362 or at
