Scouting the Panthers: Drury is the hottest team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, having won nine straight games. The Panthers beat Maryville 86-64 on Saturday, improving to 9-0 against West Division foes. Drury has a margin of victory of 25.7 points per game in those contests. That includes an 88-67 win over Quincy on Jan. 19 at Springfield, Mo.
Alex Hall, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, leads Drury and ranks fourth in the GLVC in scoring at 17.7 points per game. He shoots 44 percent from 3-point range. Brandon Lockhart, Drury's 6-1 senior point guard, is even better from beyond the arc, ranking second in the league at 48.4 percent. Lockhart, who averages 11.4 points per game, leads the league in assists per game (6.14) and steals per game (3.1). Drury leads the league in scoring (82.4 ppg), scoring defense (62.3 ppg), 3-point percentage (42.6 percent) and field-goal percentage defense (39.9 percent).
Defense wins: In wins last week at William Jewell and Rockhurst, QU limited those foes to a combined 34.9 percent shooting. QU's defense, which once ranked as one of the worst in the GLVC, is improving. The Hawks rank 10th in the GLVC in scoring defense (68 ppg) and field-goal percentage defense (45 percent). QU is 7-2 this season when its opponent shoots less than 44 percent from the field.
