College basketball preview: Quincy University men at Maryville

Scouting the Saints: Marville set a program record for single-season wins by winning 68-56 at Illinois-Springfield on Thursday. Armon Provo led the Saints, who limited UIS to 31.7 percent shooting from the field, with 14 points.

Asa Toney, a 6-foot-3 junior guard, leads Maryville in scoring (14.5 points per game) and assists (4.3 per game). Provo, a 6-1 sophomore guard, is supplying 12.4 points per game and Gerald Shaw, a 6-3 senior guard, averages 10.4 points per game. Maryville ranks 13th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference scoring offense (66.6 points per game) but ranks second in the league in scoring defense (62 ppg). The Saints' field-goal percentage defense mark of 41.3 percent is fourth in the GLVC.

Steady Babbitt: QU junior guard Chris Babbitt scored a team-high 19 points and was 7 of 14 from the field in the Hawks' 79-70 loss to Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday. Babbitt leads QU and ranks 11th in the GLVC in scoring (15.1 ppg). Babbitt has reached double figures in scoring 21 times this season, including 19 of his last 20 games. He's shooting 48.4 percent from the field for the season.

Weber out: QU's Austin Weber, a sophomore reserve guard, injured his foot/tendon in practice earlier this week and is out for the rest of the season.

The series: Quincy leads the all-time series 4-1 after falling to Maryville 70-61 at Pepsi Arena on Feb. 2.
