College roundup: Seasons end for HLGU men, C-SC women

The No. 1 team in the nation ended the Hannibal-LaGrange men's basketball team's season.

Columbia bounced HLGU from the American Midwest Conference tournament with a 67-52 victory Thursday night.

Senior Jurgen Lico led the ninth-seeded Trojans (6-24) with 17 points and eight rebounds.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Central Methodist 68, Culver-Stockton 56: The sixth-seeded Wildcats lost in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, falling to the No. 3 seed.

Daja DeHayward led the Wildcats (13-16) with 11 points, while Kati Davis had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
