Quincy Notre Dame advances in WGEM Academic Challenge at JWCC

Members of the Quincy Notre Dame High School Quiz Bowl team advanced to the semifinal round of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 405 to 215 win over Camp Point Central High School on Saturday, Feb. 23. This match was the first in a six-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC and WGEM FOX TV.

The next match, between Hannibal High School and Clark County High School will air at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on WGEM NBC, and at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on WGEM FOX.

Members of the Hannibal team include Alex Addison, Brandi Ehret, Dhaval Katbamna, Laura Meidl and Parth Parikh. Michelle Conrad is the coach for Hannibal High School's quiz bowl team.

Clark County High quiz bowl team members include Dylan Columbia, Andrew Daw, Jack Huston, Devon Mortimer, Thomas Shannan and Chance Waddell. Denise Nelson and John Reardon serve as quiz bowl coaches for Clark County.

The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the bi-state region competing in 15 matches. The host of this year's tournament is WGEM Meteorologist Brian Inman. The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.

Judges for the 2013 challenge include JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mark Moore, professor of natural sciences; and David Shinn, dean of transfer education. The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, creative services manager at WGEM.
