New Baby: A son, Isaiah Daniel Wear, was born Feb. 23 to Ryan and Rebecca Wear of Springfield in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Both the parents are former Quincyans. The grandparents are Dan and Cindy Hoffman and Ivan and DaVida Wear, all of Quincy.
Out-of-town Birth: A son, Cameron Alexander, was born to Christine Miller of Keokuk, Iowa, and Kevin Cole of Quincy on Feb. 11 in Fort Madison (Iowa) Community Hospital.
New Officers: The Katherine Luther Guild of St. James Lutheran Church met Feb. 4, beginning with a recognition dinner. There were 16 members present. The Rev. David Sager installed the slate of officers elected at the January meeting. They are Sharon Keller, president; Sandy Claus, vice president; Lori Czaplewski, treasurer; and Enid Garkie, secretary. Kelly Rider, David Sager and Susan Sager were welcomed as guests. Anna Dickhut was welcomed as a new member. Nancy Kleiboeker, chairman of the Membership Committee, recognized the officers with a gift. Those recognized for having perfect attendance were Barb Bernett, Garkie, Shirley Brinkmeyer, Keller and Claus. Those missing only one meeting were Czaplewski, Lenore Kimbrough, Renita Mohr and Kleiboeker. President Keller called the meeting to order. A thank-you note was read from Jeanette Phillips for a Christmas treat bag. Vice President Claus handed out the new 2013-2014 handbooks. Guest speaker for the March 4 meeting will be Kathy Brink from Lutheran Child and Family Services. The new chairman of Membership-Leader Development is Brinkmeyer, and the new chairman of the Social Committee is Della Wolter. Carleen Bakalyar will give the opening devotions at the March meeting, and the mite dedication will be given by Beverly Mitchell. Czaplewski chairs the evening Lenten meal. The donation list for the dessert of the month for the Spring Fling was passed around for members to sign up. Important dates to remember are: April 27 -- Lutheran Women's Missionary League district convention in Decatur; April 28 -- St. James Youth Talent Show; July 11-14 and 18-21 -- members will volunteer to man the concession stand at the Quincy Community Theatre for St. James Youth; and July 27-30 -- LWML national convention in Pittsburgh. The meeting closed with circle prayer followed by the Lord's Prayer.
