Quincy Notre Dame High School's quiz bowl team won the Class A scholastic bowl regional championship Monday at Jacksonville Routt and will advance to the Petersburg Porta sectional this Saturday.
Quincy High School, meanwhile, placed second in the Class AA regional tournament at Macomb High School. Macomb will advance to its own sectional tournament Saturday.
Winners from various sectional competitions will advance to the Class A and Class AA state tournaments, both scheduled for March 15 at the Peoria Civic Center.
QND won the regional with a 240-60 victory over Unity High School of Mendon in the championship round. QND advanced to the championship match by defeating Williamsville 290-129, while Mendon advanced with a 270-200 victory over Delavan.
Participating for QND were Steven Musholt, Eric Eling, Nick Scholz, Gibson Brinkley, Gabe Hun and Sarah Meidl. The team is coached by Susan Schmitz.
In the Class AA regional at Macomb, Quincy High School lost to the host team in the championship round 500-210. QHS had advanced to the championship match with a 310-170 win over Peoria Richwoods, while Macomb advanced by defeating Canton 540-80.
Competing for QHS were Caleb Fischer, Max Matson, Sean McClean, Kathryn Williams, Ameena Chaudhry, Chase Crossan, Lance Heady, Sage Meleney, Dalton Davis Crow and Antonio Fernandez. The team's coach is Kay Dyer.
