RUSHVILLE, Ill. -- The name of a woman killed late Tuesday night in one of two accidents occurring minutes apart on U.S. 67 in Schuyler County has been released by the Illinois State Police.
Suzanne M. Bartlett, 43, of Rushville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both accidents are being blamed on strong cross winds causing two truck drivers to lose control of their vehicles on the snow and ice-covered road.
The fatal accident occurred at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 67 near the Ill. 101 junction, also known as Littleton Junction. Police report Timothy M. Michael, 32, of Wood River, lost control of a northbound Freightliner tractor-trailer and it crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a southbound 2008 Toyota sports utility vehicle driven by Bartlett.
Michael was taken to Culbertson Hospital in Rushville for treatment.
Illinois State Police ticketed Michael on charges of driving too fast for conditions and violation of the 14-hour rule, a trucking log book violation.
The second accident occurred at 11:01 p.m. Tuesday when a semi driven by James G. Wilder, 48, of Hazelwood Mo., was caught in the cross winds. Police said Wilder overcorrected causing the tractor and trailer to overturn on the driver's side, blocking the entire road.
Wilder was taken to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb for treatment. Police did not indicate if Wilder was ticketed.
Assisting were the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department, Schuyler County Fire Department and the Schuyler County EMS.
