CAMP POINT, Ill. -- Fire destroyed a house under construction Sunday night on the west side of the Adams County highway known as the Camp Point Blacktop.

The state marshal has been notified and is expected to arrive later today to attempt to determine the cause of the blaze.

The structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 9 p.m. The house was in the woods about one-quarter mile north of the Kellerville Blacktop in Columbus Township, according to Camp Point Assistant Chief Mark Bockhold. Names of the owner and further details were not yet available early Monday morning.

"There was electric service to the house and the owners were in the process of hanging dry wall," said Bockhold.

An estimated 50 volunteers firefighters from Camp Point, Central Adams at Coatsburg and Liberty fought the blaze, which include hauling water to the muddy scene until 12:30 a.m. Monday.
