Two area players nab all-state from MBCA

Two area boys basketball players were named all-state by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association on Thursday.

Canton junior guard Tyler Niemann earned Class 2 all-state honors. He averaged 12.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game for the 27-2 Tigers.

Highland senior guard Derick Smith was a Class 3 all-state honoree. He averaged 18.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game for the 16-10 Cougars. Twenty players were on each all-state list.

Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
