Robert Paul Shafer and Melinda Marion Edlin, both of 2023 Maple, have announced their engagement. An April 13 wedding is planned at Spirit Knob Winery.

The bride-elect is a daughter of Linda and Sam Smith Sr. of 1033 S. 12th. She is a 1995 graduate of Quincy High School, a 2000 graduate of Quincy University with a bachelor of science degree in education, and a 2005 graduate of Southwest Baptist University with a master's degree in education. Miss Edlin is a first-grade teacher for the Hannibal (Mo.) Public School District.

The prospective bridegroom is a son of the late Robert Shafer and the late Sharon Butler Logsdon. He is a 1988 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1994 graduate of Western Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree in law enforcement administration. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois Probation and Court Services Association and the American Probation and Parole Association. Mr. Shafer is an Adams County probation officer.
