5K run/walk benefits Adams County United Way

The United Way will host a Partnering for a Better Community 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 6, starting in the Quincy Mall back parking lot and heading east through Moorman Park (the former Jingle Bell route).

Registration will start at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m. Entry fees are $20 for pre-registered runners, age 18 and over; $10 for pre-registered runners, ages 5-17; $25 for same day registration, age 18 and over; and $15 for same day registration, ages 5-17. T-shirts will be available for the first 200 registrants.

Participants can register online at active.com or by mailing registration and payment to Adam Ancelet, Prince Agri Products Inc., P.O. Box 1009, Quincy, IL 63206. Checks should be made payable to United Way of Adams County. Mailed registrations must be postmarked by March 31.

All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Adams County. Families and pets are welcome.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
