Despite scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of a nine-inning nightcap, the Quincy Notre Dame softball team settled for a split with Alleman in the season openers for both teams at The Backyard.
QND claimed Game 1 7-3 before falling 12-7.
QND trailed 7-5 in Game 2 when Kassidy Gengenbacher singled home Kristen Gengenbacher with one out in the seventh. After a single by Jennie Polak and a passed ball, Kassidy Gengenbacher scored the tying run on Alyson Tappe's groundout.
Freshman Ashley Wensing worked out of a bases-loaded jam with one out in the eighth. But Alleman scored five times in the ninth starting with RBI singles by Isabelle Anderson and Maddie McGuire. Abby Thompson was hit by reliever Sawyer Whelan with the bases loaded, and Abbey Johnson wrapped up the scoring with a two-run single.
Kassidy Gengenbacher had three hits in the game, while Aubrey Venvertloh tripled twice for her 99th and 100th career hits. Polak and Tappe also had two hits apiece for QND.
Five Alleman players had at least two hits with Johnson finishing 3 for 5 with four RBIs.
QND broke open Game 1 with a three-run fourth inning.
With the Lady Raiders leading 4-3, Kassidy Gengenbacher singled home two runs with one out. Two batters later, Polak followed with an RBI single.
QND scored three times in the bottom of the first inning with Mary Hugenberg's RBI single and Tappe's two-out single. Alleman answered with a three-run third -- all of the runs scored on McGuire's bases-loaded double.
QND scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third when Polak doubled and scored on Tappe's single.
Polak and Tappe had two hits apiece for the Lady Raiders, while Whelan pitched all seven innings, scattering five hits.
