Hannibal, Macomb to meet in Academic Challenge final

Members of the Hannibal High School Quiz Bowl team advance to the final round of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 355 to 95 win over Knox County, Mo., on Saturday, March 23.

This match was the fifth in a six-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC and WGEM FOX TV.

The championship match between Macomb High School and Hannibal will air at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on WGEM NBC and at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on WGEM FOX.

Members of the Macomb team include Frankie Hamm, Vince Mahr, Abraham Matlak, Zach Sutton, Tristan Willey, Lucas Williams and Andy Woodruff. Macomb is coached by Suellyn Rieckelman.

Members of the Hannibal High School Team include Alex Addison, Brandi Ehret, Dhaval Katbamna, Laura Meidl and Parth Parikh. Michelle Conrad is Hannibal's coach.

The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the bi-state region competing in 15 matches. The host of this year's tournament is WGEM Meteorologist Brian Inman. The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.

Judges for the 2013 challenge are JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mark Moore, professor of natural sciences; and David Shinn, dean of transfer education. The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, creative services manager at WGEM.
