A portion of westbound I-72 in Pike County was closed for about 90 minutes Wednesday morning after a semi truck caught fire.

Police reported a 2006 Peterbilt semi truck driven by Volodymyr Shperun, 37, of Chuluota, Fla., caught fire at 12:11 a.m. near mile marker 29.

Shperun told the Illinois State Police that he noticed a small amount of smoke coming from the front of the truck. He pulled over to the shoulder when the smoke started to increase from the engine compartment. He dropped his semi-trailer and exited the truck before it became fully engulfed in flames.

The truck sustained major damage. No one was injured.

The Pike County Sheriff's Department and Pittsfield Fire Department assisted at the scene.
