Prep baseball roundup: Palmyra stays undefated thanks to Hudson, Butler

Holden Hudson hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth inning and later scored on Brock Butler's infield singled to propel the Palmyra baseball team to a 2-1 win Tuesday over Macon in Palmyra, Mo.

It was the fourth straight win to open the season for the Panthers.

The Tigers had just tied the game in the top of the fifth on a hit batter and an error. Case Doyle drove in Palmyra's first run with a single in the fourth inning.

Palmyra's Will Funkenbusch and Josh Hultz combined to strike out 10 while allowing just one hit. Funkenbusch picked up the win.

West Hancock 16, Unity 0: The Titans used a 10-run second inning to win a West Central Conference South Division game in Mendon, Ill.

Coy Dorothy had a three-run double for West Hancock (4-0). Austin Hardy and Paxton Harmon combined to throw a no-hitter. Thomas Donley took the loss for Unity.

Canton 10, Brashear 1: Levi Gaus had two doubles and two RBIs while Justin Fellinger allowed five hits and added an RBI single in Canton's six-run third inning.

Lucas Brown, Reese Carmichael and Justin Fellinger also knocked for the Tigers (2-2).

Illini West 8, Western 2: Alex Rhodes pitched 51/3 innings and allowed only two hits and struck out eight to help the Chargers prevail.

Colton Mellinger went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Illini West (4-3) . Braxton Squier and Brody Gronewold also doubled for the Chragers. Donovan Schwanke took the loss for Western, striking out five. Jake Walch had a double for the Wildcats.

Payson Seymour 7, Monroe City 1: The Indians used timely hitting and took advantage of four errors to earn their first win of the season.

Ryan Hildebrand pitched a two-hitter for the Indians (1-2).

Tanner Stout and Dalton Speckhart hit RBI singles in the first inning to put Payson up 2-0. Drew Burwinkle and Cody Hildebrand added RBI singles in the fourth.

Pittsfield 10, Brussels 0: Ethan Borrowman went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lead the Saukees to a win at home. Mason Damon finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Pittsfield (5-1).

Dylan Reel picked up the win for Pittsfield, striking out five and only allowing one hit.

Centralia 18, Highland 4: Centralia capitalized on four first-inning errors by Highland to earn the Clarence Cannon Conference win.

Jack Neisen, Ryan Waterman, Jonathan Boyer and Dakota Sparks had singles to account for the offense for Highland (1-3).

Knox County 5, Milan 2: Royce Poore picked up the win and also drove in two runs to help the Eagles move to 3-0 on the season.

Donovan Edwards, Colton Danger and Joey McCauley went 2 for 4 for Knox County.

Mark Twain 15, Paris 4: The Tigers used a six-run fifth inning to prevail.

Douglas Camden had four hits and three RBIs for Mark Twain. Paxton Hill also drove in two runs, while Ethan Anderson, Dylan Thomure and Ethan Clark collected RBIs.

Linn County 8, Scotland County 3: Tyler Bufford finished with two RBIs, but the Tigers couldn't find enough offense to beat the Mustangs.

Carrollton 11, Pleasant Hill 1: Jordan Fiedler, Boe Smith and Ty Pruett had singles to account for Pleasant Hill's offensive output.
