Quincy Memorial Bridge is expected to open early Tuesday afternoon.

Rick Walker of the Illinois Department of Transportation said the bridge reopening procedure will begin about 1 p.m. Crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin removing barrels and barricades to allow eastbound traffic across the Memorial Bridge.

"They may have traffic on the bridge fairly quick after they start their work," Walker said.

Cones that have been used to divide eastbound and westbound traffic on Quincy Bayview Bridge will be removed as one of the last phases of the reopening.

Memorial Bridge closed on Friday as water levels rose to more than 25.5 feet. The river crested Sunday morning at more than 28 feet and has been receding since.

Walker said debris was removed from the northern side of Memorial Bridge late this morning as IDOT workers had a chance to send out crews who would not be affected by traffic.

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
