HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Hannibal-LaGrange University's nursing department will hold a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Roland Fine Arts Center to help nursing students raise money for an upcoming trip to Cercadillo in the Dominican Republic.

The team of 13 students and instructors will provide health screenings to children and share health promotion and first-aid information with residents. Proceeds from the yard sale will be used to buy supplies for the trip.

The nursing department is seeking donations of items for the yard sale. Donations will be accepted through Thursday. If needed, items can be arranged to be picked up. For more information, contact Kim Erskine at 573-629-3149 or via email at kerskine@hlg.edu.

The department also is collecting flip-flops of all sizes, sewing thread, sewing machine needles, soap, lotion, children's underwear, children's socks, children's under shirts, simple backpacks, black tennis shoes in children/youth sizes, spoons, bowls and plates, toothbrushes and toothpaste to distribute to families in Cercadillo.

Therapy dog knows just what Baldwin students need
Cooper heads down the hallway in Baldwin West for another day of school. He's focused. He's friendly. He's furry. Cooper, a golden doodle, is teacher Erin Armbruster's trained therapy dog, and his pawprints reach beyond just her classroom. "He helps out the students. He's a very good dog," fifth-grader Myles Cain said.
